Renting or buying, here is every aid you can actually claim in 2026, the limits that rule you out, and the calculator that gives you your amount.

Luxembourg offers several housing aids, but they target different people and are claimed in different places. Renters use the rent subsidy and the state rental-deposit guarantee; buyers use the Bëllegen Akt tax credit; owners renovating use the Klimabonus. This page gathers the official amounts in force, says plainly who is excluded, and routes each aid to the calculator that works out your figure.
In brief
chathome.lu explains: Renting: the rent subsidy runs from 10 to 520 € a month depending on household composition, provided your rent exceeds 25% of your net income and that income stays under your household ceiling (45,473.65 € a year for a single person). The state can also guarantee your deposit for up to 2 months' rent. Buying: the Bëllegen Akt wipes out 40,000 € of duties per buyer, covering roughly 571,429 € of purchase price for one person. Renovating: the Klimabonus pays 10,000 € for an air-to-water heat pump.
Luxembourg's aids are organised around what you are doing, not what you earn. Starting from your status therefore saves you from chasing a scheme you cannot claim.
The rent subsidy is monthly and rests on two tests at once: your household composition and your average net income for the previous calendar year. The amount tapers as income approaches the ceiling, so two households of the same size rarely receive the same sum.
| Household | Monthly maximum | Annual net income ceiling |
|---|---|---|
| Single person | 200 € | 45,473.65 € |
| Household with no dependent child | 280 € | 68,210.47 € |
| 1 dependent child | 360 € | 86,396.09 € |
| 2 dependent children | 440 € | 104,591.31 € |
| 3 dependent children | 520 € | 122,776.93 € |
Each further child raises the ceiling by 13,644.01 € but not the 520 € maximum. Below the ceiling the award never drops under 10 € a month.
One condition removes many applicants before any calculation: your rent must exceed 25% of your net income. If you are well housed at a moderate rent, you do not qualify, even on a low income.
Work out your rent subsidy — the calculator applies the official scale and shows which test you pass or fail.
The official pages state these in small print, and they exclude very common situations:
If you cannot advance the deposit, the state can stand guarantor for up to 2 months' rent excluding charges. The income ceilings match the subsidy, but the rent test is reversed: here your rent must not exceed 50% of net income. You must also not have already paid the deposit, and must commit to rebuilding it by saving over 3 years. The same calculator covers both.

Buying a home attracts 6% registration duty and 1% transcription duty, so 7% in total. The Bëllegen Akt tax credit is set against those duties at 40,000 € per buyer — made permanent by the law of 3 July 2025 after several temporary rounds.
A couple buying together each hold 40,000 €, so 80,000 € of credit. Because duties are 7% of the price, that covers roughly 1,142,857 € of purchase price duty-free. A single buyer covers about 571,429 €. A minimum of 100 € is always collected.
Two rules matter as much as the amount. The home must be your main, personal and actual residence for at least 2 years (4 years for building land or a property under construction), or the credit is clawed back. And any unused balance is not lost: it stays available for later purchases until exhausted.
An increase to 45,000 € per buyer was announced on 16 July 2026 in the "Booster fir de Wunnengsbau" package, retroactive once voted. As of 27 July 2026 it had not been voted: a deed signed today still carries 40,000 €.
The Klimabonus pays flat amounts per item, reconciled on 21 July 2026 against Klima-Agence's official simulator: 10,000 € for an air-to-water heat pump, 12,000 € for a geothermal one, 8,000 € for a pellet boiler, 2,000 € for removing an oil tank, up to 10,000 € for solar panels and 2,250 € for a battery. Enoprimes adds 1,500 € on a heat pump.
Estimate your Klimabonus for the per-measure detail.
Alongside it, VAT on the work falls from 17% to 3%, capped at 50,000 € of advantage per dwelling, for a building at least 10 years old kept as a main residence for 2 years. The Klimapret lends up to 100,000 € over 15 years with a 1.5% interest subsidy.

Many communes top up the state Klimabonus, which explains large differences between addresses. Luxembourg City and Differdange add 50% of the state amount — Differdange capped at 5,000 € per measure — and Mamer adds 30%, capped at 7,200 €. Esch-sur-Alzette and Walferdange set a different rate per measure.
We show a top-up only for the 5 communes whose regulation we have read, out of 101. Elsewhere the calculator says "not modelled" rather than applying a zero, because many of those communes do pay something, and showing zero would understate your total.
For honesty, these exist but stay outside our calculators: the prime à l'accession à la propriété, whose current scale we have not reconfirmed; the state guarantee on a mortgage; and the Klimabonus per-m² insulation scales, which could not be re-verified at the last check. We would rather show nothing than a figure we cannot justify.
The interest subsidy (subvention d'intérêt), which lowers the rate you actually pay on part of your loan, is also outside this calculator — yet it is the aid buyers most often miss. We cover it in what really determines the cost of your mortgage.
Every amount comes from the official scales stored in our configuration files, not from an estimate: rent subsidy and deposit guarantee from the Ministry of Housing page updated 2026-02-16; Klimabonus from scale 2026.2, in force since 2026-01-04 and reconciled on 2026-07-21 against Klima-Agence's official simulator; acquisition duties from our policy lu-residential-acquisition-2026-07-26-v1, verified 2026-07-26. Only two figures are computed by us, as of 2026-07-27: the purchase price covered by the tax credit (40,000 € ÷ 7% = 571,429 €, and 45,000 € ÷ 7% = 642,857 €). The second reproduces the order of magnitude announced by the government, confirming the credit applies to both the 6% registration and the 1% transcription duty.
These amounts are indicative: only the competent administration fixes the income retained, the household composition and the entitlement. Our rent calculator tests income, rent ratio and household composition, but not the administrative conditions (residence, lease, main home, family link to the landlord). The communal Klimabonus top-up is verified for only 5 of 101 communes; elsewhere we show "not modelled" rather than a misleading zero. The prime à l'accession à la propriété, the interest subsidy and the state guarantee on a mortgage are not modelled. The Klimabonus per-m² insulation scales could not be reconfirmed at the last check and are excluded from this page. The rise of the Bëllegen Akt to 45,000 € was, as of 2026-07-27, announced but not voted.
